Nepse crosses 500-point mark

KATHMANDU, May 21: The domestic stock market index surpassed 500-point mark on Tuesday with banking and insurance sectors underpinning the advance.



Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index advanced by 2.77 points, or 0.55 percent, to two-week high of 500.23 points, as share prices of banking institutions and insurance companies went up. [break]



On Tuesday, the top gainer at Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) was Arun Finance Company. The company´s share price surged by 9.99 percent to close at Rs 49.64. Stock price of Agricultural Development Bank gained 5.38 percent to Rs 235, while Asian Life Insurance Company added 4.74 percent to its share value to close at Rs 221. Among others, shares of Kasthamandap Development Bank went up by 4.17 percent to Rs 75, while stocks of Pathibhara Bikas Bank advanced by four percent to end the day at Rs 78.



Shares of leading commercial banks like Nabil, Standard Chartered, Nepal Investment and Himalayan also made moderate gains ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 9 on Tuesday.



“Although Tuesday´s performance could not be considered as remarkable, we are happy the index managed to cross 500-point mark,” Stockbroker Nanda Kishore Mundada said.
