China to promote Nepal´s tourism
KATHMANDU : China is preparing a documentary, including major tourism destinations of Nepal and China, to promote cross-border tourism in both the countries, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai said on Friday
“We hope this will be instrumental in promoting tourism,” he told Narendra Kumar Basnyat, the president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), an umbrella body of Nepal"s industrial community, during a meeting held in Kathmandu.
The ambassador also informed that China was interested in sending more Chinese tourists to Nepal and called places like Chitwan, Lumbani and Pokhara “very pleasant”, a CNI statement issued on Friday said.
During the meeting, Basnyat said that Nepal"s private sector was keen on further expanding trade, investment and economic ties with the northern neighbor.
In response, Chinese Ambassador said: ´Although there are more than 20 Chinese enterprises operating in Nepal, there is a vast scope of cooperation in areas such as hydropower, aviation, private sector development, infrastructure development, education, tourism and services.´
Pokhara to host New Year festival
POKHARA, March 29: Pokhara is hosting 10th Fewa New Year Festival from April 11 to commemorate Nepali New Year 2070 and promote domestic tourism in the western Nepali city.
The festival, which will continue till April 15, is being organized by the Paschimanchal Hotel Association, the association of hotels in Pokhara, in Basundhara Park.
“The main objective of the festival is to promote domestic tourism in Pokhara. Preservation of Fewa Lake will be the main theme of the festival,” Bikal Tulachan, coordinator of the festival organizing committee, told a press meet on Friday.
The festival will showcase culture and tradition of various ethnic groups living in Pokhara and surrounding areas and cuisines from all over the world. Entertainment programs like concerts, dohori competition and children"s park are other highlights of the festival.
“Our emphasis will be on tourism, culture and cuisines,” Tulachan said, expressing hope that the festival will help Pokhara"s endeavor of turning into an international tourism destination.
