SPORTS BRIEFS: NTHMC lifts PU Cup

KATHMANDU, March 16: Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management College (NTHMC), Pokhara claimed the title of Suzuki PU Cup 2013 Football Tournament on Saturday. NTHMC came from behind to stun the host Apex 2-1 in the final played at Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj. Bir Bahadur Thapa Magar scored in the 40th minute for NTHMC to cancel Apex´s early lead taken in the seventh minute through Pramesh Khatri.



Ridesh Gurung scored the winner in the 75th minute. The winner and the runner-up teams received Rs 35,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively along with trophies and certificates. [break]



Pramesh Khatri of the host was declared the best player of the tournament while his teammate Siddhanta Basnet and Nitish Lama were adjudged the best midfielder and defender respectively. Dinesh Gurung and Bir Bahadur Thapa Magar of NTHMC won the best goalkeeper and striker awards. Bibhav Chand of Apex was adjudged the best coach.



Pandey wins golf title



KATHMANDU
: Binay Raj Pandey on Saturday claimed the title of Sixth Ballantine´s Monthly Medal Golf Tournament held at the Royal Nepal Golf Club, Kathmandu. Playing with a handicap of 20, Pandey scored one-over 68 nett to lift the trophy of the event played under strokeplay full handicap format. Pandey is the former president of Cricket Association of Nepal. Fakhre Shah came second at 69 finishing ahead of Neeraj SJB Rana (70). Altogether 22 golfers had competed in the tournament.



Shrestha victorious



KATHMANDU
: Tsetan Gyurman Shrestha lifted the trophy of Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal on Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu. Shrestha, playing with a handicap of 13, carded seven-under 65 nett in the event played under the strokeplay full handicap format. Brian Fawcett finished runner-up with a nett score of three-under 69, ahead of Nirakar Shrestha at even-par 72. Keith Harrison won the best gross award with six-over 78. Altogether 33 golfers had competed in the tournament.



Rayamajhi wins K2-Everest Cup



KATHMANDU
: Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi secured the title of K2-Everest Friendship Golf Tournament played at the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club, Kathmandu on Saturday. In the tournament played under stableford format, Rayamajhi finished ahead of MD Khand on countback following a tie at 37 points. Pavan Jung Thapa took home the third place honors with 35 points. Altogether 60 golfers took part in the event organized by the Pakistan embassy.
