60 workers at Langtang Khola Hydropower Project missing after  Rasuwa flood

The workers had been engaged in concrete lining work inside the project’s tunnel when the flood struck. The flood has also caused serious damage to the hydropower project’s infrastructure.

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: At least 60 employees including engineers working at the under-construction 20 MW Langtang Khola Hydropower Project in Syafrubesi, Rasuwa, have gone missing following the Bhotekoshi River flood.



The workers lost contact after the flood hit the area, according to the project.

Vijay Mohan Bhattarai, managing director of Langtang Hydropower Project and secretary of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), said the government has been urged to launch a search and rescue operation for the missing workers.


The workers had been engaged in concrete lining work inside the project’s tunnel when the flood struck. The flood has also caused serious damage to the hydropower project’s infrastructure.


Bhattarai said the flood affected even the tunnel, which is located around 10 meters above the river level.
