IGP charged for neglecting Supreme Court’s decision to arrest Dhungel

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Prakash Aryal has been charged with a case of neglecting the Supreme Court’s decision to capture Maoist political leader Balkrishna Dhungel for charges of murder. Under Section 17 of the Administration of Justice Act 2016, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi filed the case against Aryal on Tuesday.If found guilty, the accused person can be charged up to one year in prison and a penalty of RS 10, 000 in cash.

New ambassador to bolster ties and investment assistance for Nepal's development

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nepal, Roland Schaefer has expressed the commitment of the Government of Germany to provide all possible assistance to Nepal for its social and economic progress. Mr. Schaefer formally assumed his office today after submitting his Letter of Credence to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday. He expressed that his priorities would be to bolster cooperation, ties and contacts between Germany and Nepal and promoting German investments in Nepal. 

NRB effortful to retrieve Rs. 400 mil of NIC Bank hiest

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, said that it was making utmost efforts to retrieve more than Rs 400 million transferred to various banks abroad by hackers using SWIFT from NIC Asia Bank. Primary investigations have revealed that the hackers transferred the amount in eight banks of six countries. Cashing in the Tihar festival, unidentified hackers broke into the Society for Worldwide Interbank Telecommunication (SWIFT), an international payment network, at the NIC Asia Bank in Kathmandu to siphon off the amount. 

Govt issues National Assembly election ordinance

The government has issued an ordinance related to the National Assembly election.

According to the Ministry of Law Yagya Bahadur Thapa the ordinance shall come into force once the President authenticates it.

The last meeting of the parliament had failed to endorse the National Assembly related bill after the ruling Nepali Congress and main opposition CPN-UML differed over the single transferable vote system.

 After the parliament’s term was over, the government on Monday endorsed two ordinances - one on medical education and the other on National Assembly election. However, the government had not made the latter public. Both the bills were yet to be endorsed by the parliament. 

The National Assembly related ordinance issued today contains the provision of single transferable vote system. UML had been opposing this system.

The election of National Assembly will take place after the parliamentary and provincial elections are held. 

Prez, PM stress on safer shelters and consolidated federal democracy after completion of elections

President Bidya Devi Bhandari stressed the need to prioratize development of earthquake-resistant settlement while carrying out post-earthquake reconstruction efforts. Inaugurating the newly constructed museum of Jyapu community amidst the three-day Jyapu festival kicked off here today, the Head-of-the-State urged the authorities concerned to ensure the reflection of original architectural designs in the construction of new infrastructure.  

During a courtesy call by US Ambassador to Nepal, Alaina B Teplitz, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed hopes that the elections of the House of Representatives and State Assemblies would be held on scheduled date.  The Prime Minister further expressed his hope that the Nepali people would enthusiastically take part in the nearing elections as in the local-level.  .

NWPP urged to enter electoral alliance

The CPN (UML) has urged the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) to consider entering electoral alliance in view of upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies. UML's central committee members  Som Mishra, former Minister Mahesh Basnet and UML Bhaktapur Chairperson Rajendra Rajthala appealed the NWPPto forge leftist alliance in order to usher the country to prosperity.
