Makwanpur District Court on Monday ordered the 19-year-old girl who hails from Basamadhi VDC-5, to be taken to the Mental Hospital, Lalitpur for treatment. The court also ordered the hospital to provide her free treatment.[break]
The girl was arrested and handed over to police by locals after she threw her newborn into the well. The locals had learnt about what the girl did only when the baby´s body began to decompose.
According to Kaushal Gyawali, administrative chief of the distirct court, the court ordered treatment for the girl as she produced evidence she was suffering from mental illness and was taking medicines.
The girl, who has been released on a bail of Rs 25,000, claimed that she did not kill the baby. "I simply threw the baby into the well as he was still-born," the girl told the court.
She also said she became pregnant while in a relationship with a boy whom she met while attending to her sick grandmother at a hospital.
