Driver Chakra Bhattarai said “When we crossed Mujaffarpur, a white bolero jeep followed us and blocked our way. Eleven robbers got off the jeep and forced us to take some unidentified pills at gunpoint,” driver Bhattarai further informed.[break]
According to Bhattarai, all of them including his helper Kamalpati Bhattrai and Amjad Dewan fell unconscious within 10 minutes after taking the pills. When they regained consciousness the next day, there were in a government hospital in India. Driver Bhattarai further informed that his assistant regained consciousness after they were taken to Patna Medical College Hospital on Friday, where the doctors pronounced Dewan dead.
The Indian police on Saturday sent Dewan´s dead body and the looted truck to Nepali police in Birgunj.
Protesting the death, Dewan´s relatives had obstructed vehicular movement in Birgunj on Saturday. Police said investigation into the incident is on. Inspector Ram Nath Ghimire said they were preparing to hand over the case formally to the Indian police.
Meanwhile, agitating relatives of the deceased driver received the body after they received compensation amount. Dewan´s family has been provided Rs 600, 000 in compensation.
According inspector Rajendra Shrestha at Area Police Office Simara, the tanker owner provided Rs 500,000 and NOC Rs 100,000 to Dewan´s family in compensation.
