Ambulance used to smuggle marijuana seized

BIRGANJ, March 1: Police arrested an ambulance driver and a man along with the sacks of marijuana they were carrying in the ambulance at midnight in Amlekhgunj on Wednesday.



Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from Pathlaiya police post arrested ambulance driver Chintamani Sapkota, 32, of Rajahar-6 of Nawalparasi and marijuana owner Krishna Bahadur Gole, 36, of Basamadi-1 Newarpani in Makawanpur. [break]



The arrested duo and 180 kg of marijuana they were carrying in the ambulance have been kept at Area Police Office, Simara for further investigation, according to police inspector Rajendra Shrestha.



In their statement recorded with police, the two have confessed that they had loaded the 12 sacks of contraband in the ambulance from a river near Basamadhi in Makwanpur and were taking it to Bandipur of Siraha.



The ambulance with registration number Na 2 Cha 6780 is found belonging to Chhetri Society Nepal at Vedik Nagar in Bhaktapur Municipality-6.
