“We have introduced cow milk for those who need high-fat nutrient. We are also planning to introduce low-fat milk soon,” Siyaram Prasad Singh, general manager of DDC, said, launching the product amid a program on Wednesday.[break]
The cow milk has a shelf life of 72 hours if kept in refrigeration under 4 degrees Celsius. Initially, the product will be available in the Kathmandu Valley only. DDC plans to sell cow milk in other parts of the countries in the near future.
DDC will collect cow milk from chilling centres in Chitwan. The milk will then be processed and packaged in its plant in Kathmandu. DDC will produce 3,000-3,500 liters of cow milk every day.
The cow milk is priced at Rs 30 for 500 ml.
DDC unveils its future plans
DDC is planning to start production of ´Butter Milk´ from mid March. Singh said the corporation is planning to produce butter milk as its demand is high in Tarai belt.
“We are planning to distribute butter milk in Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Hetauda, Biratnaga and Janakpur from mid-March,” said Singh.
Meanwhile, DDC is planning to increase production of powdered milk. For this, it is upgrading production capacity of its Biratnagar plant. "The construction works to double the capacity of the plant will complete within 3 to 4 months,” said Singh.
