A meeting of the ruling FDRA held at the residence of alliance coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Lazimpat Thursday morning also decided to hold the awareness march a day after the opposition parties have announced anti-government march in Kathmandu for January 29. [break]
According to FDRA spokesperson Prem Bahadur Singh, the meeting also decided to expand FDRA to all districts across the country. The meeting has proposed appointing local Maoist leaders as coordinator and district chiefs of other political parties in the alliance as members of FDRA district committees.
Singh said the proposals made by the FDRA secretariat will formally be endorsed by a full-fledged meeting of FDRA scheduled for Friday afternoon. “The meeting will take a final decision in this regard,” said Singh.
The decision of the ruling FDRA comes two days after the opposition alliance, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, announced 20-day protest programs against the Baburam Bhattarai-led government. The opposition parties have announced anti-government protests from Jan 19.
The ruling and opposition alliance´s decision to hold separate rallies is likely to further vitiate the environment for consensus. Singh, however, begged to differ.
“Our decision should not be misunderstood. Our rally is not to counter the opposition parties,” he said. Opposition parties had earlier decided to launch a movement for CA revival if there was no consensus by mid-January.
Singh said FDRA, while trying to guarantee fresh CA election through national consensus will keep the option of CA revival open.
