Zip-line to attract adventure tourists to Dhulikhel ahead of Visit Nepal 2020

BANEPA, Jan 7: Targeting the increasing numbers of domestic and international tourists who pass through Dhulikhel, World Wide Adventure Pvt Ltd is planning to launch the adventure sport of zip-line. 

The project of Superman Zip Line, which is targeting Visit Nepal 2020 as its prime time to generate revenue, is in its final stage of construction. The zip-line will have its launch-pad at Thalke Dada of Dhulikhel-8 and landing station at Khawa of Pachkhal-5. 

The total cost to construct the project which also includes restaurants at the landing station is estimated to be about Rs 60 million. 

“Domestic and international tourists who pass through Araniko Highway can experience and enjoy this adventure sport, which is the first of its kind in Nepal,” said Kedar Bhahadur Thapa, President of World Wide Adventure Pvt Ltd.

The zip-line, which is 2,300 meters from the sea level, will have a horizontal distance of 2,200 meters and a vertical drop of 73 meters from its launch pad.  

Thapa, further added: “We are planning to take about 60 people per day. A person will travel at a speed between 60 to 95 kilometers per hour, with respect to one's weight. On average, it will take about two minutes and twenty seconds to complete.”  

Ward chief of Dhulikhel-8, Nirajan Jagam, said: “This will help increase flow of tourists in the area. They can enjoy the adventure sport alongside the panoramic view of the mountain range.”

Talking about the safety aspect of the thrilling sport, Thapa, said: “The Superman 

Zip Line was built using Australian and Indian technology under the European and American Safety Criteria. So it is pretty safe."

The company has conducted many test flight to ensure safety of the structure. The project is estimated to employ 25 people.  

Speaking about the location of the project, local hotelier Prem Kanta Shrestha said: “People had to travel a long distance from the capital to enjoy the thrill of adventure sport. This project will make the adventure sport accessible to the residents of Kathmandu Valley as well.”
