Two die from poisonous liquor

CHAUTARA, June 18: Two people have died from consumption of Jhatka, a Sofi Brand poisonous liquor in Palchok VDC of Sindhupalchok district. Those who died were Ana Bahadur Giri alias Ramsharan, 41, a resident of Palchok -1, and Mrs. Pema Lama, 41, a resident of Ward No. 9 of the same VDC, the Ilaka Police Office Melamchi said. [break]



However, Jyamdi Lama of Palchok- 9 who was admitted at the Primary Health Centre Melamchi after being ill from the consumption returned home after treatment today, police said.



The empty bottles of the wine used by the deceased and four cartons of wine of the brand and others were confiscated from houses and local shops, and the sale was prohibited, said police.



Seven people had also lost their lives last year in the district from the consumption of Sofi wine in various VDCs.



Meanwhile, Khadga Bahadur Karki, 57, a resident for Kothe of Pangretar VDC drowned in Sunkoshi river near his house at 11:30 am today.



Likewise, Lal Bahadur Biswokarma, 56, a resident of Tauthali VDC- 7 died while walking on the way.



He died at Irkhu VDC on Wednesday evening while returning home after his business in district headquarters.



His body was taken to Chautara Hospital for postmortem, the District Police Office Sindhupalchok said.
