Girl burnt by spurned suitor dies

KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Siba Hasmi, who was earlier airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment after she was set ablaze by an Indian national for refusing to elope with him, died during the course of treatment at Bir Hospital on Wednesday morning.



The doctors had earlier said there was only a faint of hope of her survival. She was brought to Kathmandu on Monday following the referral of doctors at the regional hospital in Nepalgunj.



Babu Khan, 23, an Indian national had set fire to her on Friday morning in Gulariya in Bardiya, when she refused to elope with him.



Khan, who is said to be a resident of Baharaich in India´s Uttar Pardesh state, had poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. Police have arrested Khan, who later admitted to his crime.
