The EC made it clear that amendments in related laws and constitution were needed immediately to begin necessary preparation for the election. [break]
According to the EC, officials met President Yadav at Seetal Niwas in the evening and Prime Minister Bhattarai in the morning at his office at Singhadurbar and also requested them to fix the exact date for the voting. The EC officials also requested them to take initiative on favorable environment for peaceful election.
“We strongly demanded for the understanding among political parties as that is a must for a new election” Election Commissioner Ayodhi PrasadYadhav said.
“We clearly told the president and the prime minister if the interim constitution was not amended and other election related acts are not reformed, the EC cannot hold the election on the time set by the government."
According to the him EC repeated the same request as earlier to amend acts on the CA election, Election Commission and election to the members of the constituent assembly in order to hold the new election. He said, “Though we can hold the election on schedule we need to have the full accessibility related to constitution, law and proper infrastructure as soon as possible.”
The president and the prime minister were positive about our position on election, so I am hopeful that the complications to hold the election would not remain much longer, he said.
EC have drawn the attention of the government to manage Electric Voting Machine (EVM) on time for polling. Bhattrai has assured EC to address the problems faced by the commission keeping it on top priority of the government, he said. In the meeting prime minister asked the official to be prepared for the election . EC have also informed them of post of commissioners which are to be vacant till the election.
