KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A meeting of opposition parties held at the CPN-UML central office in Balkhu to discuss their protest program against the incumbent government has concluded on Wednesday afternoon.
Exiting from the meeting, UML leader Bamdev Gautam slammed the government move to unveil two-thirds budget, saying the government introduced the budget, despite their utmost efforts for consensus. [break]
He also said the government move has now left the country headed to a political confrontation. "This government is dead from tomorrow," he proclaimed.
Speaking to the media, NC leader Ram Sharan Mahat accused the government of introducing the budget just as a means for facilitating their use of the state coffers.
Mahat also questioned the legitimacy of the government move to unveil the budget and described the introduction of the new budget as a Maoist ploy to prolong their stay in power.
The leaders of 15 different opposition parties, including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, took part in the meeting to chalk out strategies to intensify their stir against the Maoist-led government. [break]
A day earlier, the government had unveiled two-thirds budget, which was subsequently endorsed by the president, amidst intense protest from the opposition parties.
Earlier today, the NC called its office bearers meeting. The meeting held at party President Sushil Koirala´s residence in Maharajgunj criticized the government, saying it unveiled two-thirds budget Tuesday overlooking the spirit of consensus politics.
The meeting also renewed the party´s resolve to intensify stir against the government.
