“It’s hard to say. But one thing is for sure. I would prefer not to vote if the same CA members are candidates for the new elections. These CA members have already proven that they are of no use. What did they do in the last four years other than wasting time and money?” said Sushant Thapa, taking out his frustration and disappointment that perhaps all Nepalis can relate to.[break]
Similarly, Swikriti Sharma said, “I should utilize the right to vote. But if I have no option other than to vote for the same people who did nothing but kept the entire population hanging by the hope of a new Constitution while living off on our taxes and the country’s treasury, then I better not. I wouldn’t hesitate to vote for a candidate who is capable and honest to be in that status with that sort of power.”
The loathing is justifiable for four years is a long time, and to think that nothing came out of the Rs 900 million spent and around 122 meetings held is all the more frustrating. The dissolution of the Constituent Assembly crushed all hopes harbored by Nepalis inside the country and elsewhere.
There are, however, those who are still optimistic that things can go right in the years to come. Note how things will be and how things can be are two different things altogether and it is there in that distinction that most administrative roles are defined.
“I would definitely vote in the next CA elections. Whether I vote or not, somebody is going to win anyway. So why not help a comparatively better person win? Voting isn’t just a basic right of a citizen but also a prime responsibility,” shared Ayush Dhungel on our Facebook page.
Shesh Mani Dahal also says yes. “I’ll vote in the next election. I didn’t vote in the previous one because I was underage. I’ll vote for those who will make the right Constitution for Nepal and Nepalis but not for the previously elected members because they have proven to be worthless.”
