Nepal elected VP of 64th UNGA

KATHMANDU, June 12: The United Nations (UN) General Assembly meeting held in New York on Thursday voted unanimously to elect Nepal as one of the Vice Presidents of the 64th General Assembly to commence in September this year.



Nepal is included in one of the five countries from Asia Group to elected to the vice presidency of the 64 UN General Assembly.



Some 21 countries were elected as vice presidents for general assembly. Other countries elected as vice presidents in Asia group include India, Kazakhstan, The Maldives and Turkmenistan.



Further five countries from Africa group, one country from eastern Europe, three from Latin America and Caribbean and two from western Europe and other countries group were also elected as vice presidents for the 64th General Assembly.



Further, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council will also serve as vice presidents.
