BUSINESS BRIEFS: Miteri commences deluxe bus service

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Miteri Yatayat and Auto, a leading bus operator, on Thursday commenced luxury coach service, introducing seven new deluxe buses, in a bid to cater to a growing number of travelers during the Dashain festival. The newly introduced passenger buses are air conditioned, the company said in a statement.



The buses even have Global Positioning System (GPS) installed, which will enable the passengers know the exact location. The company has been operating 41 buses to and from seven districts of Eastern Nepal to Kathmandu. [break]



Yogendra Karmacharya, president of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs´ National Federation, and Shambhu Prasad Dahal, chief executive officer of Sipradi Trading, authorized dealer of Tata motors in Nepal, jointly launched the service.



Tourism Bank to give away 10% cash dividend



KATHMANDU
: Tourism Development Bank is extending 10 percent cash dividend to its shareholders from profits made till the end of the last fiscal year. A decision in this regard was taken by a meeting of the bank´s board held on Wednesday. "The dividend would be distributed once Nepal Rastra Bank gives a green signal," as per a bank statement.



The bank generated an operating profit of Rs 58.4 million in the last fiscal year and Rs 62.5 million a year before that. The bank collected Rs 2.16 billion in deposits and extended Rs 2.07 million in loans till July 15, reads the statement.[break]



Standard Chartered to sponsor cataract surgeries



KATHMANDU
: Standard Chartered Bank Nepal will soon enter into an agreement with Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and other eye hospitals with a pledge to sponsor cataract surgeries for underprivileged and economically backward people of the country, according to a bank statement. The bank made the announcement coinciding with World Sight Day, which was observed on Thursday.



Earlier, the bank had contributed a sum of US$1.1 million (Rs 85 million) to build Biratnagar Eye Hospital, with the objective of reinforcing the bank´s “Seeing is Believing” agenda in Nepal. The bank, in 2011, signed an agreement with Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology to sponsor 1,000 cataract surgeries between 2011/12. The bank has so far been instrumental in restoration of sights of over 6,000 poor and underprivileged people since the launch of the campaign in year 2003, the statement says.



Bishwo Bank to extend 17% cash dividend



KATHMANDU
: Bishwo Bikas Bank is extending 17 percent cash dividend to its shareholders from profits made by the category ´B´ financial institution so far, according to a bank statement. The decision was taken by a board meeting of the bank held on Tuesday. "The cash would be distributed to shareholders once the board´s decision is endorsed by the annual general meeting and Nepal Rastra Bank," the statement says. The bank collected deposits of Rs 2.27 billion and extended Rs 1.92 billion in loans as of the last fiscal year.



WFTUs struggle for rights of workers



KATHMANDU
: A meeting of Asia-Pacific committee of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTUs) that concluded in Colombo of Sri Lanka recently has endorsed a 12-point resolution, which among other things announces start of a struggle to ensure greater rights and social security of workers. According to a press statement by WFTUs, the meeting also decided to press for the fulfillment of workers´ demand for better working conditions, reasonable remuneration and greater social security. Participants of the meeting have agreed to launch the struggle for women empowerment, securing greater rights of migrant workers and ensuring occupational safety of workers.



Sunrise Bank turns six



KATHMANDU
: Sunrise Bank on Thursday distributed various goods and snacks to children of the Bal Mandir (an orphanage), Naxal, on the occasion of the bank´s fifth anniversary. The goods were distributed by bank Chairman Moti Lal Dugar and CEO Surendra Man Pradhan, according to a bank statement. The bank also organized blood donations at its offices in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Birgunj and Pokhara in cooperation with Nepal Red Cross Society to mark the occasion. The bank also distributed dustbins to different temples in Ilam. The bank is currently extending its services through 49 branch offices and 57 ATMs. The bank has collected Rs 19.32 billion in deposits and extended Rs 17.25 billion in loans so far.



Kasthamandap completes 5 yrs of operation



KATHMANDU
: Kasthamandap Development Bank organized a blood donation at its head office Thursday to mark its fifth anniversary, says a bank statement. The category ´B´ financial institution is extending services through 19 offices and eight ATMs. "The bank´s deposits and financial transactions have been constantly increasing over the years and it has been operating in profit since its establishment," says the statement.



Paschimanchal Bank shares to be listed at Nepse



KATHMANDU
: Paschimanchal Rural Development Bank is listing one million units of its shares worth Rs 100 each issued to the public at Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse). An agreement to this effect was signed between Nepse General Manager Shankar Man Singh and Dharma Raj Pandey, CEO of the microfinance institution. The Butwal-based institution has been extending its services through 44 branch offices. Its paid-up capital is Rs 100 million. The bank posted an operating profit of Rs 14.6 million in the last fiscal year that ended July 15.
