The old students, now involved in various jobs or business have so far collected Rs 20 million of the targeted Rs 30.5 million and renovation of their old school has already begun. They hope the money raised by them will establish new school building, better compound and furniture for the students.[break]
Since the establishment in 1952, more than 1,700 students have passed SLC examinations from the school and most of them have been occupying reputed posts in various sectors in and outside the district. Hearing about the sorry state of the school, many former students united to contribute for the renovation program.
Former student Krishna Rana, Senior Division Engineer of District Drinking Water, who is appointed as the coordinator of Suryadaya Assistant Fund said, “Help through donation started to pour in when they heard about the sorry state of the school. In just two years, we have collected such amounts which prove anything is possible if plans are implemented properly.”
According to Rana, highest donation of Rs 2 million came from former student Ramakant Adhikari. He informed more money was coming from other sources.
Ramakant who had living in the US for the last three decades returned to his village after hearing about the renovation program of the school. Engaged in work with other helpers inside the school compound, 65- years- old Ramakant said, “It was heart breaking to see our childhood school in such dilapidated condition. We must be united to give new life to the school.”
Ramkant said the construction and renovation of the school is being carried out by around 600 locals along with dozens of government officer from the village who are also former students.
Besides students, Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, Ministry of Education and Village Development Committee has also extended monetary assistance to the renovation program.
A building with 10 rooms is nearly to complete and the entire renovation program is expected to be finished in three years.
