The accused were arrested from the city on Sunday night and nearly half of the looted gold worth IRs 12 million was seized from them, City Police Commissioner T Rajendran said.
"Out of 22 kilos of gold stolen, 9.225 kilos worth Rs 1.20 crore were seized. Two of the arrested identified as Ram Singh and Suraj Bahadur were directly involved in the robbery while four others acted as receivers,"he said. The incident happened on May 28 when robbers looted the gold after murdering temple priest Uhimath Lal.
However, main accused Bahadur Singh, a former watchman at the temple and who is thought to be the brain behind the heist, is absconding.
Rajendran said Singh had left for Nepal before the incident took place and had conducted the operation from there.
