He left for India to participate in the Seventh Convention of the Pravasi Nepali Sangh (Association of Nepali Immigrants), India going to be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh of India, according to Khanal´s personal assistant Rambabu Adhikari.[break]
CPN-UML politburo member Prakash Jwala, former central member Pramesh Hamal and personal secretary Adhikari are accompanying the party chairman.
Talking to media persons at the Tribhuvan International Airport before a flight to India, Khanal said there is no alternative to consensus among the parties for ending the political and constitutional impasse in the country. He stressed that the present government should pave the way for that to happen.
"We should move forward by taking the Interim Constitution into mind in the context of all the political parties showing their willingness to go for fresh election," the UML chairman said and expressed the confidence that the parties will soon arrive at a consensus on the new election to the Constituent Assembly and formation of a national consensus government.
He said it has become necessary to form a national unity government since the present government has become a complete failure.
Khanal also made it clear that so far no itinerary has been finalized of his holding high level talks with the Indian leaders.
