KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Teej, one of the most celebrated festivals by Hindu women, is being observed across the country today.

The festival, which usually falls on the month of Bhadra according to the lunar calendar, is a three-day celebration where women fast and offer prayers to Lord Shiva wishing for the prosperous life of their spouse.

The first day is called Dar Khane Din during which the women visit their kin, friends and relatives and enjoy various delicacies. The second day is fasting day. It is also considered as the main day of the celebration of this festival, which is also known as Haritalika.

The third day or the final day is Rishi Panchami. The women break their fast and perform prayers and offerings. On this day, various temples and shrines of Lord Shiva are thronged by devotees and women.

However, the government this year has urged the Hindus and others who celebrate Teej to observe their festival from home due to COVID-19 pandemic. The government has also restricted gatherings and celebrations in a bid to curb the further spread of COVID-19.
