5 things about Krishna Dharabasi

One of the prolific writers of Nepal, Krishna Dharabasi has published 27 essays, and several short stories and novels. ‘Saranarthi’ was his first novel which was published in 1991. ‘Radha’, one of his highly-celebrated metaphysical novels, earned him Madan Puraskar in 2005. After serving for about 25 years in Agriculture Development Bank, he retired and chose to dedicate his entire time writing.

An intense travel writer

Dharabasi is fond of travelling and ends up researching and wandering around places before preparing any of his writings. His writings depict his experiences with the places and people he visits. He has travelled to 27 states of the United States and about 10 countries so far. He is a keen learner of history, philosophy, geography and many other genres which confirms him to be a travel writer.


A teetotaler

Never in his life did Dharabasi garner any kind of addiction. Although he is frequently insisted to drink with friends on special occasions, he certainly does not prefer drinking.


A trademark cotton bag

A cotton bag which Dharabasi has been carrying for almost 25 years has been his trademark. Because he is highly passionate about writing, he admires carrying his reading and writing materials in his bag which often makes numerous visits along with him.


Writing as a meditation

For him, writing is meditation. He is overwhelmed by his thoughts being completely unaware of the outer happenings. In course of time, he continuously ends up writing about 15 pages in an hour.


Not a shopping person

Though Dharabasi is used to visiting shopping malls, he ends up buying nothing at all. He does not have a record of buying a single stuff on his own till this phase of his life.
