5 officials remanded for 15 days

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Special Court on Thursday granted a 15-day remand of five officials for allegedly accepting bribes from Chitwan Medical College.



According to deputy registrar at the Special Court Nirmala Bhattarai, a three-member bench of the Special Court judges comprising Chairman Kedar Prasad Chalise and members Mohan Raman Bhattarai and Bhupendra Prasad Rai issued the order after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority CIAA urged the court to grant one more month for investigation into the case.[break]



The CIAA on Wednesday had arrested five officials, including director of Office of Company Registrar Lal Babu Kawari and chartered accountant Bhanu Kandel, on the charge of accepting bribes from the Chitwan Medical College.



Kandel and Kawari were arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 2 million in bribe for manipulating the audit report. Other officials involved in the case are Shiva Shrestha, Bindu Sharma and Abid Ali.



The Office of the Company Registrar had deputed the officials in order to inspect the financial condition of Chitwan Medical College. Kandel is associated with Anamnagar-based Bhanu Associates Consultancy.
