The police said they took the tractor (Na 1 TA 5663) heading for Bihar through the Janakitole point under control at 9 pm on Monday. The tractor was carrying 4,700 kg of betel nuts. “The smugglers fled after they knew that a police team was following them,” said SP Pitambar Adhikari.
Likewise, the police seized 550 kg of betel nuts from a tractor in Janakitoli border point of the district. However, the local businessmen forced the police to release the tractor and had helped it cross the border. “But later, a police team took the tractor under control,” SSP Subendra Khanal said.
The seized betel nuts have been sent to the custom office in Birgunj.
