KATHMANDU, July 18: The government is set to operate the 4G service in main cities of Nepal immediately after coming October in keeping in mind the users' convenience.
At a press meet organized on Monday, Minister for Information and Communications, also the Chairperson of Radio Frequency Determination Committee, Sherdhan Rai shared that efforts are underway to bring the service into operation after three months.
He informed that the Radio Frequency (Distribution and Pricing) Policy-2073 has been implemented with amendment made after consultations with the stakeholders.
The Minister further noted that the frequency service would be brought in use in a well-managed manner and the policy of neutrality has been adopted to that end.
The policy once enforced would not allow any service provider to hold the license distributed.
Likewise, the excess frequency should be returned and the organizations working in the field can go for merger.
Also speaking on the occasion, Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) Chairperson Digambhar Jha and its Executive Director Ananda Raj Khanal have expressed their hope that the amended policy would pave the way for service providing organization to provide LTE plus 4G service on 1800 band and 3G service on 900 band.
They also said that the NTA would connect remote rural area with optical fiber by mobilizing rural telecommunication fund and double investment in the sector would be discouraged. RSS
