KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the civil service employees to boost their performance. 

In his address to a special program held at Singha Durbar today, on the occasion of the 15th Civil Service Day, the Prime Minister urged the civil servants to try their best to double the performance in the service of people. He was of the opinion to reduce the existing operational cost by fifty percent. The ceremony was organized by the Civil Service Main Celebration Committee. 

"Action plan having a schedule of two weeks can be accomplished in a week," Oli said, adding that he wished not to hear any public complaint on dilly-dallying and irregularities in civil service. "Now we must guarantee good governance," he asserted. 

He also called on government employees to end the culture of escaping duties, refusing to go to assigned stations and organising protests and strikes and contribute to the efforts meant for translating the dream of building a prosperous nation. 

The Prime Minister further pledged to sort out confusions surfaced in regard to the implementation of federalism including the management of governments at three levels (federal, province and local) which was the maiden practice in the context of Nepal. 

As the prime minister said, a new civil service act would be brought to make the civil service administration and activities free, competent, efficient, and result oriented. The same act would be capable for addressing appropriate demands of employees from senior to junior levels by guaranteeing their career development. 
Saying the draft bill of Federal Civil Service Act is under consideration at the Council of Ministers, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Lalbabu Pandit, urged the civil servants to provide service smoothly even in any difficult situation. 

Similarly, Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi expressed the belief that the civil service administration would always be helpful in achieving government's goals of good governance and prosperity while Secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, said that the administration should give result keeping in mind the expectation in the changing context. 

Likewise, Chairperson of the official Trade Union of the Civil Servants, Punya Prasad Dhakal, drew government's attention, saying Civil Servants Trade Union Rights should not be shrunk in formulating laws related to civil service. 

On the occasion, various outstanding employees were awarded. The Day is celebrated under the theme 'Result-oriented Administration: Prosperity and Good Governance'. 

The Civil Service Day is celebrated on Bhadra 22 in the Nepali calendar every year.
