KATHMANDU, May 5: A total of 49,071 candidates have filed their nominations for the first-phase of local-level elections taking place in 34 districts of three provinces - 3, 4 and 6 - on coming May 14.
The Election Commission (EC) data shows that 1,925 people have filed their candidacies for the posts of municipality mayor and rural municipality chief from across 283 local- levels while the number of candidates vying for the posts of municipality deputy mayor and rural municipality deputy chief is 1,429.

The nominations were registered on May 2.
Likewise, 10,841 candidates are contesting for the posts of ward chairs, 18371 for the ward member (open category), 9,033 for the women member and 7,472 for the posts of member from the Dalit quota, according to EC Joint-Secretary and Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.
There are four metropolitan cities, one sub metropolis, 92 municipalities and 186 rural municipalities in these three provinces.
Likewise, candidate nominations have been registered for the seats of 2,598 ward chairs including 123 in metropolitan cities, 19 in the sub-metropolis city, 1,091 in municipalities and 1,365 in rural municipalities. More, nominations have been filed for the seats of 10,392 ward members (each four for 2,598 wards).
The total number of voters for the first-round election is 4,956,925 while the voting is taking place in 6642 polling stations. RSS
