KATHMANDU, Aug. 15: Rights activists have drawn Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai´s attention not to promote Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Kuber Singh Rana, who has been accused of human rights violation.

They jointly submitted a memorandum to the Office of the Prime Minister in which they said their attention was drawn by the news carried by media that the way was clear for Rana to be promoted to the post of Inspector General of Police though Rana is named as one of the respondents in the Supreme Court order issued in the name of the government.

The Supreme Court directive has suggested to the government not to appoint and promote the persons accused of committing serious crime, and also urged the government to determine the laws and criteria regarding vetting of such cases.

The rights activists urged the government not to appoint or promote any including Rana accused of violating the human rights as directed by the SC directives through the memorandum.

They have demanded to forward a fair investigation on the case filed against AIGP Rana that is under consideration at District Police Office, Dhanusha.

Prof. Kapil Shrestha, Shushil Pyakurel, Charan Prasain and Subodraj Pyakurel among others were present on the occasion.
