Even after the District Administration Office (DAO) of Kaski unlocked the padlocked doors early this week, almost all services remained halted on Wednesday as the agitating doctors refused to work. [break]
The Kaski DAO has asked the hospital management and All Nepal Progressive Health Workers´ Association, which called the strike on July 29 demanding a hike in doctors and other employees´ salaries, to sit for the talks later on Friday to resolve the problem.
However, chances of resumption of services at the hospital still appear slim as both the management and the association continues to stick to their positions. The hospital management has decided to raise salaries by 13 per cent but the association is demanding 30 per cent.
Even on Wednesday, local human rights activists tried to broker a deal between the hospital management and the association to resume the halted services. But, their efforts failed to bear result.
“Neither the hospital management nor the association showed flexibility,” said Surendra Thapa Magar, coordinator of Civil Society Network for Peace.
Although the agitating doctors continue to work at the emergency ward not many people are coming there to recieve medical services. When the doctors went on strike, there were 350 patients admitted at various wards. By now, most of them have been discharged and no new patient has been admitted.
