Pun wins Gokarna Open

KATHMANDU, May 30: Niraj Pun was declared overall winner of the tenth edition of the Gokarna Open Golf Tournament played at the Gokarna Forest Resort on Saturday. The prestigious amateur tourney featuring 120 golfers was played over 18 holes in the Stableford point format with a ¾ handicap. [break]



Pun finished top with 40 points while runner up Kanchan Basnyat scored 39 points. Pun bagged free air ticket of Kathmandu-London-Kathmandu trip while Basnyat got free air ticket for Kathmandu-Sharjha-Kathmandu trip.



Amateur golfer Rupak Acharya bagged the Best Gross title while Mrs Yoo won the same title in the ladies´ category. Acharya scored 35 points while Yoo scored 36 points. GM Lama was the winner among the seniors.



RM Shrestha´s drive for the 18th hole won him the longest drive award in the men´s category. Similarly in the ladies´ category, Kesang Lama won the award.



Tashi Sherpa received the ´closest to the pin´ title. The Best Sportsmanship Award went to Nicole Frost. AT Sherpa walked away as the Club Championship winner. Himalaya SJB Rana was awarded with the Senior Most Member Award.



Surya Nepal was the main sponsor of the tournament, while Pepsi, Qatar Airways, Air Arabia, Etihad Airways and Lowenbrau partnered the event.
