Demolition of the roadside constructions in the area is taking place with the help of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, Kathmandu Metropolis, Metropolitan Traffic Police Range, Department of Urban Development and Physical Planning and Works and the Nepal Police.[break]
Prior to this, the Authority has set a demarcation line on both side of the road in the area for demolishing physical constructions.
It is learnt that the demolition task would continue until late this evening. An alternative route (bank of the Bagmati river) has been managed for vehicles plying on this route.
However, the locals have expressed dissatisfaction over the government move. They have complained that victims have not got proper compensation from the government side. They have accused the government of trying to displace the people in the name of road widening.
It may be noted that the government has intensified road widening task in Kathmandu Valley for past few months, following a problem in traffic management caused by congested roads here .
