The event entitled ´Inequality and affirmative discrimination: situating Nepal in global debates´ is organized by the Tribhuvan University Department of Sociology and Anthropology.[break]
The conference is expected to discuss on attempts going on in the country to end inequality, promoting affirmative discrimination.
Inaugurating the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar said efforts are being made to end discriminations based on caste, region, language and gender, following the restoration of democracy in the country.
All the political parties are committed to ending all sorts of discriminations in the new constitution, he added.
Department Chief Om Gurung expressed the hope that the conference would come with concrete suggestions for settling disputes on federalism.
A total of 25 sociologists and anthropologist from Nepal, India, USA and the United Kingdom are taking part in the conference.
