Yeti Airlines, HSC renew sponsorship deal

KATHMANDU, July 9: Yeti Airlines renewed its sponsorship deal with top-tier football club Himalayan Sherpa for a record amount on Monday.



Yeti Airlines will provide Rs 2 million to the club as the title sponsor for the next year. Earlier, Jawalakhel Youth Club had signed a record deal worth Rs 1.8 million with its title sponsor Samsung for a year.[break]



Yeti Airlines Deputy Managing Director Norbu Sherpa and Himalayan Sherpa President Karma Chiring Sherpa signed a Memorandum of Understanding amidst a function at the Gokarna Forest Resort, Kathmandu on Monday.

As per the new contract, the club will continue to brand itself as Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club. Yeti Airlines had provided the club Rs 1.5 million in the first year of its sponsorship deal last season.



"Yeti Airlines´ continuation of the sponsorship has encouraged not only our club but also the entire Nepali football community," said Sherpa, the club´s president. "Our club does not have a long history but we have achieved success in a short period and we have much more to achieve," he added.



Himalayan Sherpa, established in 2062 BS, played in the A division league last year. The club finished fifth in the Martyrs Memorial League and second in the National League.

"Yeti Airlines started its association with sports forming a cricket team of professional players and we joined hands with Himalayan Sherpa to promote football," said Binay Shrestha, marketing chief of the airlines.



All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa extended his best wishes to the club. "Himalayan Sherpa has established itself as a popular club in a short period," said Thapa. "Such sponsorship deals will help the club survive and excel at the top level," he added.



During the function, the club felicitated Chhemji Sherpa, the youngest woman to conquer Mount Everest.
