Nepali porters pay entry fee in Sagarmatha National Park

SOLUKHUMBU, June 24: The government has hiked the entry fee tourists visiting the Sagarmatha National Park have to pay effective from June 22.



This decision has been taken in exercise of the powers conferred under the Himali National Park Regulations-2036 BS, according to the Sagarmatha National Park Office, Solukhumbu. [break]



Chief conservation officer Ram Chandra Kandel said as per the new rate of entry fees, the tourists from the SAARC region have to pay Rs 1,500 person while those from third countries Rs 3,000 per person.



According to the new provision, the Nepali tourists and porters will also have to pay Rs 25 per person while entering the Sagarmatha National Park. Earlier, Nepali tourists and porters did not have to pay entry fees.



Before this, the tourists from the SAARC region had to pay Rs 100 per head as entry fee while those from other countries except SAARC countries had to pay Rs 1,000 per head.



Tourists and travel agencies have expressed dismay at the sudden hike in the entry fee.
