"There is no single bottle of saline left. We just don´t know what to do if cases needing saline arrive at the hospital," said Suresh Juri, assistant health officer at the emergency ward of the hospital. "The situation is not bad as yet. But if there is an outbreak of the diseases in the villages, we will be flooded with patients," he added.
Similarly, medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Ganesh Bahadur Joshi warned that the lack of saline might cost the patients´ lives. "In serious cases of diarrhea and dysentery only RL saline can save life," he said.
Joshi has appealed to the government, the banda enforcers and all quarters of society to understand the gravity of the situation. "I urge all the parties to help supply medicines and saline immediately. The temperature is rising day by day and diarrhea and dysentery outbreaks could occur anytime in the villages," he said.
No sooner than the Tharu community called off the banda, the supporters of undivided far western region have again resumed indefinite banda starting Wednesday.
