Issuing a statement on Sunday, Khanal urged people from across the country to raise their voices in a peaceful manner. [break]
"As in the recent days we have observed some incidents where there have been attempts to incite conflicts among various castes in the name of debating over state restructuring issues. It has saddened us," Khanal said in his statement.
"While we are at the sensitive juncture and final leg of the constitution writing, it is the duty of every citizen from all linguistic, religious, caste or any other groups to act responsibly and show restraint," he said.
He urged one and all to respect the co-existence of all communities, give priority for social harmony and national unity and not to be involved in any activities that would result in regional or racial disturbance and cause anarchy in the society.
Khanal urged the concerned groups to shun general strikes, shut downs, violent activities and use of force.
