UDMF leaders at the cabinet meeting on Thursday morning expressed concern over the fate of four-point agreement that relates to issues raised by Madhesi parties, including recruitment of 300 Madhesi youths in the national army. [break]The leaders, however, expressed readiness to recall some of the Madhesi ministers from the cabinet to pave the way for formation of the national consensus government.
“My party is ready to recall two ministers from the cabinet, but cabinet should not be dissolved,” said a cabinet minister, quoting Minister for Information and Communications and Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) Rajkishor Yadav as saying at the cabinet meeting.
According to the minister, Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi also supported Yadav and argued that the present cabinet should be reshuffled, not dissolved.
In response, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said the opposition parties should join the present coalition and should not demand dissolution of the cabinet.
The Madhesi leaders during a separate meeting with UCPN (Maoist) also argued that the dissolution of the cabinet would nullify the four-point agreement. “Dissolution of the present government would nullify the four-point agreement,” said General Secretary of MPRF-R Atmaram Sah.
Sources said Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had tried to convince UDMF leaders into dissolving the cabinet. “We should look for a dignified way out as the coalition has made a historic achievement,” Minister Yadav quoted Dahal as saying in the meeting.
According to Maoist leader and Energy Minister Post Bahadur Bogati, the meeting concluded that despite protests against the four-point agreement, the present government had succeeded in achieving its goals.
