Nationwide daily COVID-19 count hits 1,221
KATHMANDU, Aug 30: The Kathmandu Valley witnessed a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases on Sunday.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), 429 more people were diagnosed with this viral infection in the past 24 hours. It is the highest daily count in the federal capital city since the country reported the first case earlier on January 24.
Of the newly-confirmed cases, Kathmandu district alone reported 373 cases. Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, on the other hand, witnessed 12 and 45 new cases on Sunday, said Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry.
With this, the COVID-19 tally in the Valley has jumped to 4,997 - 3,960 in Kathmandu, 606 in Lalitpur and 431 in Bhaktapur.
Dr Gautam, while disseminating COVID-19 updates through a virtual media briefing, shared that as many as 1,221 new cases were recorded across the country in the last 24 hours.
