“Today´s (Monday) meeting concluded that we must exert necessary pressure on the Maoist party, which has tactically stalled the peace process,” said Atmaram Sah, General Secretary of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R), after the meeting. [break]
The leaders maintained that the Maoist party is responsible for the hindrance in the peace process, stating that the party itself has halted the process of voluntary retirement of ex-combatants. “There are no hurdles from the main opposition parties -- Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML -- regarding the process of voluntary retirement of ex-combatants,” added Sah.
Another Madhesi leader said they will hold talks with major political parties regarding statute writing as these parties are now disowning the agreements made earlier on the thorny issues in the sub-committee.
Vice-chairman of Sadbhawana Party Laxmanlal Karna, who was present at the meeting, said his party has also reviewed the progress made on Madhesi issues incorporated in the four-point agreement reached between the Madhesi alliance and the UCPN (Maoist), prior to the prime ministerial election that elected Dr. Baburam Bhattrai as the prime minister of the country.
