In senior girls´ basketball, Mahendra Bhawan registered a hard fought 22-21 victory over NIMS. Shanti Shrestha top scored with 12 points for Mahendra Bhawan. Both the matches ended in draw during junior boys´ football tournament. Reed Model and NIMS shared points playing 1-1 draw and Deep Jyoti and Tri Jyoit settled for 2-2 draw.
Trinity off to flying start
KATHMANDU: Trinity Club of Syangja made a flying start during the super league rounds of Red Bull B Division Regional Football League that kicked off on Saturday in Waling, Syangja. With a hat-trick by Dev Thapa, Trinity thumped New Generation Club of Sindhupalchowk 4-1. Thapa scored in the 5th, 16th and 32nd minute for Trinity. Pum Gurung added another for the winning side 78th minute.
Sunil Tamang scored the consolation for New Generation. The other match of the day between Kasturi Yuva Club of Siraha and SM Sports of Dhanusa ended in 1-1 draw. Ashok Shah had given early third minute lead to SM Sports but Sandesh Chaudhary hit back the equalizer in the 26th minute. The winner and the runner up teams will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 and get a chance to compete in the Red Bull B Division Nationa League to be held later.
Ilam, Morang to vie for title
JHAPA: Ilam and Morang will vie for title in the Eastern Regional Women´s Knockout Football Tournament underway at the Domalala Stadium in Birtamod, Jhapa. During Saturday´s match, Ilam saw off Jhapa 1-0. Amrita Rai scored the match decider in early third minute. During the inaugural match on Friday, Morang had defeated Sunsari 2-1.
Dipa Neupane had netted twin goals for Morang. Sunsari got consolation as gift from Morang as it hit an own goal. The final of the tournament being organized by Sukriti Sporting Club of Jhapa will be held on Sunday.
Orchid, Arniko win
MORANG: Orchid and Arniko Higher Secondary School won their respective football matches on Saturday during the Weekly Rumpum HISSAN Sports Meet being held in Morang. Orchid defeated COBASS College 3-0 with a goal apiece from Aniket Dhakal, Bikram Majhi and Tek Narayan Majhi. Similarly, Arniko registered a 3-1 win over Lord Buddha during tie breaker after the regulation time finished in 1-1 stalemate to secure semifinal berth.
In cricket matches, Shikshya Deep recorded 61-run win over COBASS and Kanchanjunga edged past Bhanu by two-runs. Arniko and Lord Buddha emerged victorious in boys´ volleyball and Shikshya Deep entered final in girls´ volleyball defeating Lord Buddha.
Indian Embassy defeats CAN XI
KATHMANDU: Indian Embassy registered a four-run win over CAN Secretary XI during a friendly Twenty20 cricket match on Saturday at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Opting to bat first, Indian Embassy collected 132/8 in the allotted overs. Ranjit Singh scored the highest 21 off 25 balls remaining unbeaten for India Embassy. Rajan Pratap Singh (20) and Sohan Patel (16) were the other batsmen to score in double-digit figures.
Indian Embassy got 45 extra runs. Maheshwar Shrestha and Sri Niwas Rana of CAN bagged two wickets apiece. Chasing the modest target, CAN could manage 128/8 in 20 overs. Pubudu Dassanayake smashed 56 off 43 balls for CAN before being bowled by DK Singh. Kiran Rana scored 27 runs, Amit Jung Pandey 12 and Uttam Karmacharya 11 runs for CAN which got 15 extra runs. Sohan Patwal pocketed three wickets while DK Singh and Ranjeet Singh claimed two wickets apiece for Indian Embassy.
