According to Eichner and the race organizer Nepal Amateur Athletics Association, the marathon was 1668th marathon of her career. [break]
"I completed my career´s 1668th marathon," the cheerful lady told Republica adding she had competed in 700 ultra marathons as well.
"It´s been 32 years that I have been running marathons," said the mother of three -- two daughter and a son -- and grandmother of five. "The first time I competed in a marathon was in 1980," recalled Eichner, who claims to have competed in many world class marathons including Berlin and Chicago marathons.
To complete the race, Eichner circled five times around Swamabhunath area. A circle is nearly five kilometers. This is Eichner´s first visit to Nepal.
When asked how long she shall compete in marathon, Eichner said, she wishes to run until 140 years if she survives.
Sharing her experience of running in Nepal for the first time she said, "First three lapses were really good. But the remaining lapses were not good as vehicles and motorbikes overcrowded the marathon route. In other places [outside Nepal], there was no vehicular movement in the route."
When asked what encourages her to run at such elderly age, Eichner said, "It gives me pleasure to run and I feel great joy when I complete the distance. Besides, every marathon is a chance to show your ability and it is really good to see the pedestrians and visitors applauding."
She also expressed her desire to compete in Everest Marathon, the highest altitude marathon of the world, held each year on May 29. "If I get invitation to run the Everest Marathon, I will surely run." Eichner thanked the organizers for organizing the wonderful marathon.
