Many a times, picking a product amidst a conglomeration could be badly dilemmatic. And approaching the near-by person could make the situation much worse. Thus, keeping things in mind prior to buying could save you from many hassles.

Here, in conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Dermatologist Sanju Babu Shrestha shared things to keep in mind before buying beauty products.

Curiosity and consulting is the key

Like prior discretion before any movie, a discretionary guidance is better when starting with new cosmetics.  You may consult skin or beauty experts before taking a switch to other products. Or to generally start with, ask your smart phones and you will get smarter ways to erase your curiosities. At times, the acnes, blemishes and pigmentation could be hormonal. So, it is important to track down the problems and serve them a right skin care solution.

Know your skin type

A new product that we are recommended of a friend or the next house neighbor, the hunt for that product goes on. From oily and dry skin to sensitive and combination ones, different types of skin tune to different skin products and treatment. Many times the skin might be prone to allergies and blemishes with the usage of some random cosmetics that you grab from the store. If you are using any product for the first time, it is a smart call if you go through the reviews of previous users. But before you get influenced by the copycat mentality, it is a must to know your skin type beforehand.

Opt for the right sunscreen

The harmful rays of sun come in types i.e. UVA, UVB and UVC. The first two types carry along two different types of skin problems. UVA causes skin ageing while UVB is responsible for skin burning. Thanks to the protective layer of ozone gas that absorbs the most harmful UVC rays. No matter how high the number of SPF is, it mostly prevents skin from burning preventing the UVB rays. SPF 15-30 is a suitable choice as higher numbers could be more appropriate while on hiking, swimming and sunbathing. As per the dermatologist, sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide is recommendable since it does not penetrate the skin and offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. So, in order to escape ageing along with sun-burn, broad-spectrum sunscreen is your go-to cosmetic.

Debunk ‘the bigger the cost, the better the quality’ myth

The glitz and glamour of advertisements have had the buyers installed the impression of weighing the quality of products by its price tags. Yes! The product quality could be determined with its pricing ranges but it also varies from what skin type you actually are. For instance: If you have oily skin, water-based and non-comedogenic products are highly recommended while oil-based moisturizers are recommendable to persons having dry skin.
