Talking to media persons at his residence in Gongabu, Baidya said, “The statement was issued by a faction of the party, so the whole party doesn´t own it. Even the party´s parliamentary board had taken a decision to review the four-point deal.” Baidya leads the hard-line camp in the party. [break]
Party Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma in his statement issued on Tuesday had stated that the party is fully committed to the four-point deal reached with the Madhes-based parties and also that the party has not decided to force Defense Minister Sarat Singh Bhandari (who was sacked on Wednesday) to resign.
He said the standing committee meeting prior to issuing the statement solely focused on Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai´s forthcoming India visit. “I was taken by surprise when I came to know about the statement,” said Baidya.
Dubbing the four-point deal an “anti-national” move, Baidya reiterated that the party must review it.
Baidya also criticized Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for publicly stating that “people´s democratic revolution” is not possible in Nepal owing to various reasons.
At a cadre training program in Chitwan, Dahal recently stated that those who think that the party deviated from the ideals of “people´s democratic revolution” can quit the party.
“Our official line is to achieve the goal of the people´s democratic republic. It is against the party´s stated goal to argue that the people´s democratic revolution is not possible in Nepal,” said Baidya.
The party hard-liner argued that the ongoing intra-party conflict is the direct result of the failure to implement the party´s official decisions. “The decisions taken unanimously in the party were never implemented since the Kharipati meeting,” he said.
He also dismissed the claim by his party that the peace process is making progress.
“I talked to chairman and he told me that there has been no progress on the peace and constitution drafting process. I am not in the know if any secret deal has been struck,” he said. The Maoist vice-chairman clarified that his party is not in favor of surrendering the PLA and its arms in the name of integration.
Commenting on the ongoing district visits by Dahal, he said the chairman is holding training program for the cadres of his faction only.
Complaining that he was being projected as a leader against peace and constitution, Baidya said, “It is totally wrong to project me as a leader against peace.” He added that he only wants a forward-looking state restructuring and constitution, and integration of the PLA in a dignified manner.
