KATHMANDU, May 21: Bringing the three genres of rap, rock and reggae together, the first House of Music festival is set to mesmerize Kathmandu’s music lovers in the beautiful ambience of Patan Museum today.

With Lyrics Inthependense (LI) for rap, Albatross for rock, and Joint Family Internationale for reggae, the lineup doesn’t get any better than those.[break]

Sanjay Shrestha, one of the organizers and also a band member of Joint Family, shares that they always wanted to do this festival. And this time around seemed like the right moment to do it.

“House of Music has always been about promoting music. The bands in the lineup are really good at what they do, and this festival is trying to bring some good music for people to enjoy,” says Shrestha.

All three bands have been hard at practice and having fun in the meantime. Whereas LI will rap their powerful rhymes and do some expected freestyles, Joint Family will be doing some reggae covers, and Albatross will hit the stage for their songs from their new recent album “Atti Bhayo” along with their old hits.

Besides performing separately, all three bands will also share the stage for some collaborative performances.

“We practiced for like a week for the three to four collaborative pieces that we’ll be doing at the event,” shares Shirish Dali, vocalist of Albatross. The fusion part will definitely be something to look out for.

“The three genres of music that are coming together under one roof are the most underground genres, “says Gaurab Subba of LI. “Here, we’re not just talking about pop culture, but about something creative and meaningful in music.”

As the festival is anticipating more audience than the venue at House of Music in Thamel can handle, the organizers have chosen the historic Patan Museum for the event. However, the choice was more than just for its capacity but also for the exquisiteness of the venue, says Shrestha.

So there you have it – a beautiful setting and great music to enjoy at during your weekend.

The gig starts at 5pm at Patan Museum, Mangal Bazaar, and tickets are available at Rs 300 each. Come groove to the rhythm of rap, rock and reggae!
