SPORTS BRIEFS: Nepal on group 'A' of ACC U-19 Women's Championship

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) put Nepal alongside the UAE, Malaysia, Thailand and China in the ACC U-19 Women´s Championship. Nepal is on the group ´A´ of the tournament while group ´B´ includes Bhutan, Hong Kong, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran.



The championship would be held in Kuwait from February 1 to 10. Nepal is the defending champion of the tournament. Nepal had defeated Bhutan by five wickets in the final of the last edition held in Singapore in 2010. [break]Nepal had also won the inaugural tournament held in Thailand in 2008.


Solidarity course for boxing coaches

KATHMANDU: A 10-day long IOC Solidarity Technical Course for Boxing Coaches concluded on Friday. Nepal Boxing Association organizedhanded over certificates to the participants of the technical course on Friday. International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) Coaches Commission Member Bodo Andress had conducted the course for Nepali boxing coaches.



Nepal Olympic Committee Vice-president Umesh Lal Shrestha handed over the certificates to the participants. Meanwhile, Nepal Boxing Association General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha handed over two sets of boxing gloves each to 19 districts on his own expenses.



Likewise, association´s treasurer Ram Awale handed over cash reward to boxing coach Dambar Dutta Bhatta, who was coach of Deepak Maharjan during the 32nd King´s Cup. Maharjan had won bronze medal in the King´s Cup. Bhatta received Rs 8,000, sponsored by Awale and secretary of Lalitpur District Boxing Association Prakash Thapa.
