Altogether five players including two from MMC-- Bijay Gurung and Sujal Shrestha and three from NRT-- Laxman Ruchal, Asim Jung Karki and Raghu Prajapti -- have been handed a three-match ban by ANFA disciplinary committee for a brawl during their match on Monday. [break]
NRT had won the match 2-1.According to National League coordinator Narendra Shrestha, both the teams have filed the appeal on Tuesday. Both the clubs have requested to reduce the ban and have also committed not to do repeat such mistakes in future.
"We are waiting for response from the committee and it is likely to come on Thursday," Shrestha said.
Tennis team off to Vietnam
KATHMANDU, Jan 4: An eight-member tennis team left for Vietnam on Wednesday to participate in the U-14 Asian Tennis Championship. Pranav Kayastha, Sakchyam Karki, Aavash Malla, Bhivuti Karki and the twin sisters Mayanka and Mahika Rana will participate in the tournament.
Surya Bhusan Bajracharya is the coach of the team while vice president of All Nepal Tennis Association, Jyoti Rana, is the team manager. [break]
NBA felicitates medalist
KATHMANDU: Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) on Wednesday felicitated the silver medalist of Second Martyr Benizer Bhutto International Boxing Tournament, Ratna Tamang, and awarded him with cash prize. Tamang had won medal in men´s 64 kg weight category. NBA awarded him Rs 20,000 and a letter of appreciation. NBA also felicitated the other participants and coaches.
Along with the felicitation program, NBA inaugurated the IOC Solidarity Technical Course for Coaches. Forty coaches are participating in the 10-day course.
SG Challengers beat Duro Warriors
KATHMANDU: SG Challengers defeated Duro Warriors by eight wickets on Wednesday in the Shree Ridhi Sidhi Marwadi Champions League Inter Marwadi T-20 Cricket Tournament at Modern Indian School, Chovar and fixed the semifinal spot. Batting first, Duro Warriors scored 102 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Prateek Gupta scored 33 runs off 30 balls while Niraj Basnet scored quick-fire 25 runs from 13 balls. Pankaj Agrawal and Vikash Lunia grabbed three wickets for S G Challengers. SG Challengers reached the target of 103 in just 14.4 overs losing two wickets. Yogesh Sawarthia scored not out 39 runs off 36 balls While Anil Vibhuti scored 27 runs off 23 balls.
Holder Gyanu Baba takes lead
KATHMANDU: Defending champion Gyanu Baba Higher Secondary School has climbed to the top position in the Seventh Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday after defeating Nepal Police Club (NPC) in three straight sets. In the match played at the court of Dhorpatan Sports Training Centre, New Bus Park, Balaju, Gyanu Baba beat NPC 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.
Similarly, Armed Police Force (APF) and Angel´s Heart also registered wins. APF fought back from first set down to beat Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center 23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 25-12 while Angel´s Heart edged past New Diamond Academy 14-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-18.
Chhantyal maintains lead
KATHMANDU: Govinda Chhantyal of Nepal Chhantyal Association remained on the top of the leader-board after the completion of third day in the Second Open Gurung Bamboo Archery Championship. Chhantyal added four points on Wednesday to take his total to 10 points. Tham Gurung of the host Gurung Bamboo Archery Club has eight points in total and the second position on the leader-board.
Meanwhile, Gyanendra Sherchan of Japan-Nepal Coordination Committee scored five points on Wednesday to win the best archer of the day award.
MMC thumps NRT 4-0 to book semifinal ticket
