Manish shines in Mayor's Cup

KATHMANDU, May 5: Nepali FIDE Master Manish Hamal on Tuesday defeated India´s U-12 world champion Syanran Das in the ongoing second Mayor´s Cup open chess championship being held in Mumbai, India. Hamal outplayed the higher ranked Das, who is rated 2238 by FIDE, in the sixth round of the championship, to accumulate 4.5 points. [break]



Meanwhile in the unrated category, title contender Rajendra Rajbhandari of Nepal shared a half point with Anbeshan Upadhyaya of India, who has a 2321 rating, after playing him to a draw.



Rajbhandari now has 3.5 points. Likewise, Niraj Niraula beat Munir Tripathi, and Purushttam Chalise beat Dhanshri Pandit . Niraula now has 3.5 points, while Chalise has 3 points.



Manish Hamal will lock horns with Pankaj Joshi, while Rajendra Rajbhandari will play against Saurav in the seventh round.
