All the representatives have arrived and the meeting has just begun," said Anil Jha of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum. The meeting began at 8.30 a.m.
The meeting will try to reach consensus on the action against the chief of army staff Rookmangud Katawal. While the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) is bent on sacking the army chief, other partners in the coalition government – Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), MPRF, Sadbhavana Party and Communist Party of Nepal (United) are against any unilateral decision by the largest partner.
A cabinet meeting is likely to follow the ruling coalition´s meeting.
Highly placed sources in the UML said that the party is not happy about the Maoists´ "sack Katawal" tirade and would meet President Dr Ram Baran Yadav if the Maoists ignored the other parties´ concerns.
UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal is learnt to have said that the party would draw the president´s attention if the Maoists went ahead with their very public warning on Katawal.
Dr Yadav has advised Prime Minister and Maoist party Chairman to act as per the interim constitution and ensure all-party consensus on the army chief before taking any action.
