Speaking at a function organized by Human Rights and Peace Society, a rights group, and attended by the president, human rights activists requested President Yadav to forward the government recommendation to the Supreme Court and uphold the dignity of his post.[break]
Krishna Pahadi, the founding president of the Society, criticized UCPN (Maoist) for "dragging the president into controversy".
He asked the Maoist party to revoke its decision saying that the government has violated human rights and rule of law by seeking pardon for Dhungel. “If the government doesn´t take back the decision, the president has to send it directly to the court and remain out of controversy.´
He opined that the government shouldn´t recommend pardon for Dhungel as the parties have agreed to form a truth and reconciliation commission to deal with the crimes committed during the conflict.
